CAREER JOURNEY

15+ years of Big Data and Visualization
Research & Digital Technology.

From research internships to academic research and technical leadership, my work has focused on turning complex data into insight.

EXPERIENCE

A Trajectory from Research to Technical Leadership.

The common thread has been using computation and visualization to solve problems that are difficult because of their scale, complexity or multidisciplinary nature.

2015 — Present

Lead Senior Visualization Scientist

KAUST Visualization Core Lab · Thuwal, Saudi Arabia

Lead a multidisciplinary scientific team delivering Big Data Analytics, Advanced Computing, HPC, GPU, AI, Scientific Visualization and Immersive Analytics (AR/VR) solutions. Support, Collaborate, and Train researchers and industry partners working with large and complex datasets and manage state-of-the-art visualization infrastructure.

2013 — 2015

Assistant Professor

Umm Al-Qura University · Makkah, Saudi Arabia

As an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah, I taught and mentored students while primarily focusing on research. My research was conducted through the GIS Innovation Center, Makkah Techno Valley, where I worked on big data analytics, big data systems, and large-scale data visualization. This role provided me with a strong foundation in both academic research and the development of data-intensive computing and visualization solutions.

2012

Research Intern

Microsoft Research · Redmond, USA

During my internship at Microsoft Research, I collaborated with researchers on analyzing and visualizing large and complex brain network datasets. I designed and developed an interactive visual analytics system that enabled researchers to explore, analyze, and understand the underlying structures and patterns within these complex networks. This work strengthened my expertise in visual analytics, large-scale data analysis, and the design of interactive visualization systems for complex scientific data.

2011

Research Intern

AT&T Research Lab · New Jersey, USA

During my internship at AT&T Research Lab, I worked on analyzing and visualizing large-scale cybersecurity and web data to support security analysts in identifying suspicious activities and potential fraud. I designed visual analytics approaches to help analysts explore complex patterns, detect anomalies, and uncover emerging threats within massive datasets. The goal was not only to identify fraudulent activities but, more importantly, to enable early detection and prevention before they occurred.
