BIOGRAPHY

At KAUST, I lead a specialized lab at the intersection of scientific computing, visualization, AI, and data science—turning advanced computation into scientific discovery.

CURRENT ROLE

I manage and lead the KAUST Visualization Core Lab (KVL), bringing big data analysis, scientific visualization, immersive analytics, AI, data science, and high-performance computing together to support data-intensive research. With more than 15 years of experience in scientific visualization, data science, and computational research, I work with researchers across disciplines to transform complex and large-scale datasets into meaningful visual insight, scalable workflows, and new computational capabilities.

CAREER JOURNEY

My career has focused on the intersection of visualization, computation, and scientific discovery. I earned my Master’s and Ph.D. from Purdue University, and have spent more than a decade developing and leading research and visualization capabilities at KAUST. Through KVL, I have grown a research-enablement environment that connects advanced visualization, HPC, GPU computing, AI, and data science with real scientific problems across climate, energy, marine science, biology, materials, and other research domains.

KEY COLLABORATIONS

Throughout my career, I have worked closely with researchers and scientific teams across disciplines, building collaborations that turn computational challenges into practical research solutions. Through KVL, these collaborations span climate and environmental science, energy, marine and ocean research, biology, materials science, AI, and data-intensive computing, as well as partnerships involving KAUST research groups and external academic and industry organizations. The work has contributed to peer-reviewed publications, research software and workflows, visualization systems, and large-scale computational studies.

TEACHING & OUTREACH

Beyond research and consultancy, I lead KVL's training and knowledge-transfer activities, helping researchers and students develop practical skills in big data analysis, scientific visualization, data science, AI, and advanced computational workflows. Through workshops, hands-on training, and collaborative projects, I work to make sophisticated computational and visualization technologies accessible to researchers with different levels of technical expertise. KVL has trained hundreds of KAUST and In-Kingdom participants and delivers continuing workshop programs covering large data analysis and visualization, AI tools and techniques, and data science.

PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY

Great questions rarely yield to powerful tools alone. They begin with curiosity, grow through discipline and persistence, and become meaningful when we have the courage to look beyond the obvious.I believe the real value of data and computation is not simply in what they can process, but in what they help us discover, understand, and imagine.
